Who We Are

Axia Digital (Ireland) was incorporated in Ireland on the 31st January 2019. However, we’ve been active in Ireland for many years before this. Our parent company, Axia Digital UK, has been trading since 1997 to deliver customised systems enabling organisations to capture and assess skills and competencies online.

Our history in Ireland and the significance of the work which we’ve produced for our Irish customers makes Axia stand out amongst other providers of online assessment systems. For Nursing and other health professionals, we provide assessment systems for the full continuum of health training from pre-qualification programmes to online applications for recognition as advanced and consultant practitioners.

The configurability of our core platform allows us to cater exactly to our customers’ needs. This ensures that those who design assessment systems never need to adjust their methodology to fit our online systems. We’re able to exactly reflect the way in which customers want to assess.

Our Work in Ireland

The Start of Axia Digital’s CPD Work in Ireland

Our work in Ireland began with the annual conference of the Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy (IIRRT) in 2012. It was then that we launched our first online CPD site in Ireland.

At an earlier seminar to introduce other professional bodies and regulators to our work, we met with Professor Thomas Kearns, who was then working for the Nursing and Midwifery Board. He’d maintained an interest in our work over several years. When he became Head of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI) he commissioned us to deliver several CPD based projects. Today, all nursing professionals seeking to become either Fellows or Members of the RCSI must complete their application online using a site that we’ve developed. Since retiring from the RCSI, Professor Kearns has joined our ADI Board as a non-executive director.

E-assessment Systems in Other Areas of Business

As well as working with the IIRRT, we’ve provided online CPD, membership systems, and events booking packages to several professional bodies. Our UK company’s work extends beyond the health sector and includes providing the Professional Experience Record tool to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), many of whose trainees are based in Ireland. That system currently has over a million users worldwide.

Our Latest work in Ireland

Our latest and most significant project In Ireland is the development of a digital version of the National Competency Assessment Document (NCAD) for nurses. The current Head of Nursing at Atlantic Technological University (Donegal) and current President of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), Dr Louise McBride, commissioned us to create this digital document. She and her team offered valuable support and guidance to ensure that the site is successful.

The key to the successful implementation of this digital document was that it works exactly like the paper NCAD. Our work on this project won us a prestigious Irish Education Award in 2023 for Best Industry / Business-Academic Collaboration.

Frequently Asked Questions

E-assessment (short for electronic assessment), is the use of digital technology to administer, deliver, and evaluate assessments. It replaces traditional paper-based methods by enabling users to complete assessments electronically. This allows users to benefit from more comprehensive feedback and engagement, yielding enhanced outcomes.

CPD stands for Continuous Professional Development, which is the ongoing process of learning, improving skills, and staying up-to-date in one’s professional field. It involves engaging in activities and experiences to enhance professional knowledge and maintain competence.

A competency is a skill, ability, attribute, or knowledge which a person possesses. In the world of e-assessment, competencies are usually specified requirements that professionals need to meet or achieve in order to receive accreditation or certification.

Digital logs record information such as assessment details, scores, time stamps, test-taker responses / feedback, and system interactions. They replace traditional paper logbooks to provide a comprehensive record of the assessment process, offering a more efficient and accessible way to document and track information. This is useful for analysis and verification purposes.

A skills passport is a record of an individual’s skills, experiences, and qualifications. It’s a portable and comprehensive record which highlights an individual’s capabilities, making it easier for their skills to be showcased to employers, educational institutions, or professional organisations.

The term “members” is what we use to describe the users of our sites. These individuals represent the primary users of our systems and are responsible for logging information onto the sites. Depending on the preferences of the customer, “members” may also be referred to as “students”, “trainees”, or “interns”.

NOW.net is the name of our core platform. The company developed NOW.net to facilitate quicker and more cost-efficient website development. All of the sites which we develop are deployed onto this platform.
