Axia Once Again Demonstrates the Configurability of their Core Platform

We developed MyCad.ie in collaboration with Atlantic Technological University (ATU) in Donegal. We continue to meet regularly with their team, and we recently made further improvements to the site.

Easily Record Attendance and Track Progress

MyCad has an integrated Attendance Record which enables users to easily add attendance using the digital document and have it signed off. This has the major benefit that those responsible for checking the progress of all students can immediately view the up-to-date status of completed assessment tasks and the time spent by the student on that placement, all within one report.

Challenges and Changes

Repaying Time

Once a placement was signed off and the assessment decisions were sealed, it became difficult to capture the hours that students needed to repay due to sickness or other absence. To amend this, a change was implemented to allow students to access the attendance record outside of placements. Students are then able to request any Preceptor, Associate Preceptor, or Registered Nurse to confirm their attendance and sign off their hours.

Sign-off Signatures

There was also a professional concern that when assessment records were reopened to allow corrections to be made or additional information added, the ‘signature’ of the original decision maker was no longer visible. Now, all assessments that have been made by Preceptors, Associate Preceptors, and Registered Nurses remain visible in system. Now, all assessments that have been made remain visible in the system. This allows users to see the history of when sections / records were reopened and what decisions were made.

Thoughts from Axia

Company Chair Chris Peat who continues to lead the company’s work in Ireland comments:

“No matter how good we are in gathering the requirements of our customers and testing our work, it is only when the site is used by ‘in practice’ do other requirements emerge. As a company our challenge is to ensure we understand what the emerging requirements are, check that they have validity across a range of contexts, which is particularly important for national documents and then implement them quickly. These further improvements to the MyCad.ie site have been well received.”
