Improvements and New Developments for MTU Nursing Students

Our company Chair Chris Peat, who continues to lead our work in Ireland, recently met with the Nursing team at Munster Technological University. MTU now uses MyCad for the practice assessment of all their nursing students. This meeting provided an opportunity for their team to raise any issues and discuss the implementation of available upgrades to the site.

The main issue raised involved how Tutors sign off on the hours students spent on reflection as part of their Reflective Practice Coordinator role. In response, the team quickly identified a solution and enthusiastically welcomed the following developments:

  • The implementation of NCAD pins, which allow students and preceptors to seamlessly work on the same device without needing to log in and out repeatedly.
  • Adapting the competency sign-off page to display a history of all assessment decisions.
  • Converting the orientation / induction documents to dynamic content (currently added as an attachment in MyCad).
  • Allowing CPCs to access all student portfolios (with permission) to address the issue of allocated CPCs sometimes being unavailable.
  • Requiring students to agree to a confidentiality statement for all placements.

Chris commented “it was great to hear the team describe some of the more subtle benefits of MyCad they see as practitioners that we sometimes miss”. Furthermore, he will be representing Axia in Ireland at the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland this October.
